The Ukrainian Air Force has reported a serious shortage of interceptor missiles. As a result, none of the 23 ballistic missiles fired by Russia at Kyiv on Sunday night were intercepted. Officials stated that at least 15 people lost their lives in this attack, while six additional fatalities occurred in the larger Kyiv region. President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on international allies to make strong decisions regarding air defence support during this week’s Nato summit. After the strikes, he mentioned that the Ukrainian military successfully intercepted some cruise missiles and drones but struggled with ballistic missiles. The massive Russian attack involved 68 missiles and 351 strike drones. The Ukrainian military managed to down or suppress 37 missiles and 326 drones. President Zelensky warned that without adequate Patriot missile systems from allies, Moscow would continue targeting civilian buildings. The night was chaotic, with loud explosions and emergency responses across Kyiv. By Monday morning, widespread damage became apparent, with several apartment blocks partially collapsed and significant rescue operations underway.
