Wang Jibing, a food delivery rider, has won one of China’s top literary awards, the Lu Xun Literary Prize. His poetry collection, titled Low Flight, describes the everyday challenges of delivery workers. Wang is 56 years old and has been a delivery rider since 2019. He gained popularity on social media for his poems about the tough lives of blue-collar workers. In 2022, his poem Man in a Hurry went viral after he faced a frustrating delivery that took several hours due to a wrong address. Despite his success, Wang plans to continue working until he is 60. He enjoys the work and believes it keeps him healthy. Even though he has won the award and gained media attention, he wants to keep a simple life and focus on his poetry. Wang’s collection, published in 2024, includes insights from interviews with about 200 delivery riders. Many blue-collar workers, like Wang, are now becoming successful in literature, inspired by their real-life experiences.
