Russia has conducted serious attacks using ballistic missiles and drones on Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least eight people and injuries to many others. Four people lost their lives in the north-eastern city of Kharkiv, while an elderly woman died in the capital, Kyiv. In Zaporizhzhia, two more fatalities occurred, and one person died in Sumy. President Volodymyr Zelensky has described the attack on Kyiv as one of the largest since the full-scale invasion began in 2022. These attacks have also affected civilian infrastructure, including homes and businesses. On that same day, a cargo ship transporting grain was struck by Russian missiles, leading to five deaths in the Black Sea. Ukrainian military forces have successfully intercepted 18 out of 41 missiles, along with many drones.
The rapid escalation of hostilities raises concerns about the safety of civilians during this ongoing conflict. President Zelensky emphasizes the need for additional missile systems and support from international partners. He has pointed out that these strikes are incredibly damaging and that Ukraine needs to prepare for more attacks in the future. If the international community does not assist Ukraine, it could lead to more casualties and destruction. In response, Ukraine has targeted Russian oil facilities that finance these attacks. Ukrainian armed forces have struck three Russian oil tankers in a successful effort, which they consider a necessary action to protect their nation. With an increase in drone attacks, both sides seem to be intensifying their operations, suggesting that the conflict is far from over.
