Spain has recently implemented border controls for all air and sea travel from Italy. These new measures started at midnight and are set to last for a month. This decision comes a week after Italy introduced similar restrictions due to an influx of around 78,000 migrants from Morocco into Ceuta, a Spanish exclave. Spain's Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, has demanded that Italy remove its border checks by Sunday. However, the Italian government, led by Giorgia Meloni, announced that the checks will remain until at least August 15. Italy argues this is necessary to manage the expected increase in migration to Ceuta. Italy does not share a land border with Spain, which is why they maintain these checks. Spanish officials say that Italy's reasons are not true, as the migrants have no easy way to reach Italy. Spain will carry out checks on passports and visas for those traveling from Italy amid concerns about irregular migration. These measures will stay in place until September 7, unless the situation changes.
