The Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, has promised to establish stricter gun control laws following a shocking shooting incident near Bangkok. This tragedy involved a 14-year-old boy who killed eight people and injured 22 others. The attack began early in the morning when the teenager shot his grandparents in their home. After this violent act, he traveled to Debsirin School, where he was a student. There, he shot five teachers before taking his own life in the classroom. Anutin has stated that he plans to restrict the carrying of firearms in public spaces, allowing only government officials to carry guns while on duty. Reports indicate that Thailand has one of the highest rates of civilian gun ownership in Southeast Asia, with approximately 10.3 million firearms owned by individuals. Unfortunately, about four million of these guns are believed to be held illegally. Although strict laws exist against illegal gun possession, enforcing them has been a challenge. This tragic event has raised serious questions about the safety of schools and public spaces. Anutin emphasized that such tragedies should not occur in Thailand, highlighting the need for change.
